St. Peter's Church, Ashton, WI - celebrates 150th anniversary

St. Peter Parish is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and held a Mass and dinner November 5 to mark the occasion.

Bishop Robert C. Morlino came to the parish, located in rural Dane County about 10 miles outside Madison, to celebrate Mass. Concelebrants included Fr. Brian Dulli, pastor of the parish, Fr. Laverne Meier, Fr. John Meinholz, and Fr. Henry Kalscheuer.

The parish has grown considerably since it was founded by 20 families as a mission church of Cross Plains and Martinsville. It currently has over 300 registered families.

“Many other people have been positively impacted by the Holy Spirit’s generous outpouring in Ashton,” said Father Dulli in his homily during the Saturday evening Mass which packed the church’s pews.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Milwaukee, WI

Found some pictures

Found these on a site called historic-structures.com

There's no dates or further information.  I would think these were probably pulled from some other repository of photos and slapped in this website.  Not sure of their origin.

FYI, this church is now named Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

St. Raphael's Cathedral, Madison, WI

St. Raphael's Cathedral - 1946

St. Raphael's Cathedral - 1955
To you out of state readers, St. Raphael's was burnt down(arson) in 2005 by this guy. Father Z posted a nice photo of a painting depicting firefighters in the Cathedral wreckage.

I think even when a church needs additional space in the sanctuary, that there is no need to throw out the baby with the bath water.  It's like there was this effort to make sure that no church would ever again look like those old outdated ethnic parishes.  I would have loved to see someone adapt the ethnic parish look and feel but be innovative enough to extend it's look to meet the modern need.  I mean, what's with the UFO lights?  I feel like the La Crosse Cathedral had a similar situation.  We needed to extend the space and did make a grand, large church, but lost something in the translation.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Almena, WI

Are there any beautiful churches left in the Diocese of Superior? Yes!
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Almena, Wisconsin. Almena is just a stone's throw away from the Casino in Turtle Lake and well worth a visit when "gamboling" in the area. Holy Mass is at 8:00 am Sunday; and that would be your best bet to see the glorious interior that has been left virtually intact since its construction in 1904 by German immigrants.

Restoration Alert: St. Joseph Cathedral, Sioux Falls, SD

SIOUX CITY, IOWA, August 4 (CNA) - The Diocese of Sioux Falls, South Dakota recently celebrated the interior restoration of its Cathedral of St. Joseph, completing a 15-year effort to bring classical beauty back to the nearly century-old worship space.

"This is not the end but rather the beginning of a new day for the Cathedral of St. Joseph as a place to see beauty, learn about the faith, and draw closer to God," said Sioux Falls Bishop Paul J. Swain, who welcomed worshipers and visitors after blessing the restored cathedral's doors on July 25.

Former Sioux Falls bishop and current St. Louis Archbishop Robert J. Carlson attended the dedication, witnessing the completion of the redesign that he initiated during his leadership of the diocese. Bishop Donald J. Kettler of Fairbanks, Alaska, who is a former rector of the cathedral, also attended the ceremony.

In addition to the artistic overhaul, designed by the acclaimed architect Duncan G. Stroik, the $16.2 million project also included extensive building maintenance and structural work, along with the complete replacement of the church's electrical wiring, sound system, lights, heating and air conditioning.

Duncan Stroik also designed the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Some photos of Cathedral of St Joseph:

*sigh* I ♥ beauty.  Ahem, the Diocese of Sioux Falls has about half the Catholic population as the Diocese of La Crosse...  Just sayin...
