Born 9 years after the death of Isaac Jogues in the same area of his martyrdom, Kateri Tekakwitha is the first person born in North America to be beatified (she hasn't yet been canonized as a saint). She was the daughter of a Mohawk warrior and a Christian Algonquin woman.
